According to a latest exposé, the Ambulatory Pediatric Association of Israel has prepared specific guidelines to deal with childhood obesity and in accordance with these new rules, the paediatrician has to play a pivotal role in treating overweight as well as obesity in children. However, Dr. Zachi Grossman, the chairman of the committee responsible for creating the guidelines, states that as families mostly turn to paediatricians for treating the common diseases occurring in children, they should also assist children to get rid of overweight and obesity.
Dr. Zachi Grossman further reveals that in order to effectively treat obesity in children, the doctor should measure the weight of obese and overweight children during check-up on a regular basis. He also adds that a physician spends just 10 minutes with every child patient that he treats and moreover, he reveals that explanatory aids are in the offing which is likely to be used by doctors to save the time consumed in providing specific information to kids and their parents on the harmful effects of obesity.
Sources make it apparent that the committee prepared the guidelines within a period of 18 months and these guidelines are to be shortly disclosed at an obesity-related seminar scheduled to be held at Wingate Institute near Netanya.
